Problems installing Windows 7 — solved August 11, 2009

We initially had an error “Please insert the CD/DVD drivers CD” But it turns out that the problem is in the burn of the Windows 7 ISO that we downloaded from the MSDN website. If it is burned too fast or using a one-off program (like Power ISO) it will not work. We moved to burning the DVD with Nero and that solved that issue.
If you are planning on upgrading to Windows 7 you will need at least 13gig free for the 32bit OS and 20gig for the 64bit.
After installing Windows 7 on my home PC (where I formatted my C Drive for a clean install) it only took up 7gig of hard drive space leaving plenty of room to reinstall my software that I need. My PC at the house is running a P4 3.0GHz hyper threaded and 768MB memory. I must say it seems to be running much better than Vista was running. In fairness my Vista copy was an upgrade from XP and not a clean load which may have affected it performance as well.
We now have loaded Windows 7 RTM on two PC’s and are please with the outcomes on both and after we were able to get the DVD to burn properly we have not had any major issues with the loads that seem to only take about 30 to 45 minutes.
After running on Vista since early in its release and prior to that on XP it feels odd to have wiped and reformatted the C Drive (I left my two data drives in tack.) I will have to get use to not having some of my programs until I have an opportunity to reload all of them.

I wonder what your issue with power iso was… It is interesting that you brought this to attention, because here was my experience with power iso: burn the dvd, pop it back in, windows sees it and can run a setup directly from the cd. Reboot, pc doesn’t understand that the dvd is inserted. I assumed I was having other issues, but it may have, in fact, been the same issue you are having. On the other hand, if I mount the ISO to a virtual drive using power iso, my VM sees it.
@Matt – I have not had any sucess burning Microsoft ISO to DVD using Power ISO I do not know if it is Power ISO or Microsoft ISO’s but I have always had any issue with the two. I burnt that DVD with my home PC and my office PC and neither worked but when a co-worker burned it for me with Nero it worked fine.
You can confirm that it run fine with just 768MB of ram ?
I have 3G and it runs just fine, but are somwhat sluggish when you start to to heavy stuff with large files.
Still way better than XP and Vista
@TigerBimmer – I had the beta loaded on my laptop which only had 512mb Memory and it ran ok. All I used it for was Word Processing and Email nothing major. It did slow down on me as I loaded it up.
As far as my desktop I do not have it fully loaded and much like my laptop I do not do any heavy gaming or graphics on this PC. Main I use it for surfing the web and playing not so graphically intense games. I have not had any issues yet. I supect that I will need more memory still but it already runs better than Vista did on the same box.
